Dr. Russell L. Herman is a professor in the departments of Physics & Physical Oceanography and Mathematics & Statistics at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Wilmington, NC, USA. Dr. Herman’s interests include topics in nonlinear evolution equations, fluid dynamics, relativity, quantum mechanics, chaos and dynamical systems, signal analysis, and using technology in physics and mathematics. He has delivered close to a hundred lectures in these areas and has published three dozen papers. He has a distinguished 25 year career in teaching, earning several teaching awards. He has directed dozens of undergraduate and graduate research projects. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Effective Teaching, a peer reviewed electronic journal devoted to the discussion of teaching excellence in colleges and universities.
